Specializing in supporting clients with marginalized neurotypes ("neurodivergent" or marginalized "neurostyles"). We all live in a world of diverse ways of thinking, feeling, and experiencing ("neurodiversity"). Through an affirming lens, we support your therapy needs and/or provide assessment to help you gain access to resources. We understand that Autistic and/or folks with ADHD (or, as Dr. Nick Walker says, "kinetic cognitive style") need support that accepts and honors differences rather than pathologizing lived experiences.

Adult Diagnosis Reflection Support: Compassionate Exploration
We recognize that understanding adult autism and ADHD goes beyond diagnostic criteria. We want to know your story. Our qualitative assessment protocol embraces the unique experiences and perspectives of each individual.
How Dr. Flores Approaches Assessment:

Listening to Personal Narratives via In-Depth Interviews: Dr. Flores provides in-depth interviews with adults of various marginalized neurotypes. These conversations allow us to explore unique life journeys, challenges, and strengths. She listens actively, seeking to understand each individual's unique perspective and, sometimes, the perspectives of their inner circle...

Relational Insights: Dr. Flores invites clients to share this experience with trusted partners or family members in the assessment protocol. The observations of trusted loved ones can provide valuable context. These external narratives enrich our understanding and guide the assessment process to better understand Self in relation to internal and external experiences and perceptions.

Exploring Potential Sources of Distress via a Trauma-Trained Approach: Dr. Flores recognizes that trauma can impact the brain. She learned in the dissertation process that Autistic and ADHD brain styles have a greater risk of exposure to trauma and lower systemic resilience reserves. Dr. Flores and her team of therapists and counselors are trauma-informed and/or trauma-trained.
Beyond Symptomatology: Dr. Flores uses a protocol that allows for deeper insight into characteristics, traits, and experiences that often manifest as more nuanced than 'symptoms'. We explore coping practices, compensatory strategies, masking energy expenditure, communication, trust in Self and inner experiences vs. outer perceptions, sensory experiences, strengths, and unique interests or ("SpIns"). These insights inform personalized strategies and patterns.
Collaboration and Empowerment through Dialogue (speaking and non-speaking): Dr. Flores and her clients work together effectively as she highly respects and honors the right of autonomy. Her goal is to empower her clients with self-awareness, coping skills, and a sense of agency.

Holistic Understanding: Beyond diagnosis, Dr. Flores strives to understand the whole person and their way of being in the world—their passions, challenges, and aspirations. Her affirming approach fosters understanding that often leads to what she calls "grief and relief". After receiving the report, you are encouraged to work through the feelings, thoughts, and concerns with one of Dr. Flores's team therapists who are trained in this process.

They shared stories of letting their inner rebel out from the shadows of dominant society, with a persistent drive for autonomy. They also shared the “exhaustion” that sometimes comes with their innate non-conformist energy, allowing them to keep swimming
in a mainstream world.
